How Often Should I Change My Mercedes’ Oil, and Why Is It Important?

Picture of Car Service

Your car is one of the most important things to keep in good condition, and it’s much easier to do than you might think. Regular oil changes are of the utmost importance in getting as much life from a car’s engine as possible, and here at Silver Star Motors we want it to be as hassle free and easy as possible.

Older Mercedes used to come with the recommendation that every 3,000 miles the oil should be changed, but as science improved motor function and oil became fully synthetic, those rules changed. It is now recommended that Mercedes cars have their oil changed every 10,000 miles, but there are some exceptions.  If you’re driving an older car (say 2010 or older), or own a high performance car, you should stick to changing the oil every 5,000 miles or so.

We all know that cars should have their oil changed every so often, but why?

The benefits of oil changes are numerous, including longer engine life, better miles per gallon, better engine performance overall and less pollution. Keeping the engine well lubricated with fresh oil will make for a smoother ride, as well as eliminate debris that often builds up and damages the engine’s performance. Clean oil also reduces the friction that slows down your engine, letting you travel further between fill-ups, and who doesn’t want higher miles per gallon? Fresh oil is also less likely to burn off and cause toxic emissions, therefore lessening your footprint and keeping the air cleaner. Most importantly, regular oil changes extend your engine’s life.  Your vehicle will last much longer with all of its critical parts free from debris and dirt, all of which is easily attainable with proper care.
